Sheffield resident fined £300 after being caught fly tipping in Derbyshire

Members of the public discovered the fly tipped waste on Gashouse Lane, in Eckington. in May and reported it to the NE Derbyshire District Council. A council enforcement officer attended and retrieved evidence form the fly tipping, linking it to a property in Sheffield.

Waste collectors must have a waste carriers licence registered with the Environment Agency. It is a resident’s responsibility to ensure their waste is being disposed of correctly. If you pass waste to a waste collector and fail to check that they are licenced to carry waste, then you are committing an offence.

North East Derbyshire District Council Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, Cllr Stephen Pickering said, “Please ensure your waste is taken by licenced carriers, it’s your responsibility to make sure waste is disposed of correctly.

“We as a council continue to do great work to catch fly tippers and prevent further waste being abandoned, delivering on our aim to maintain a safe and pleasant environment throughout the district.”

Gashouse Lane has been subject to several fly tipping incidents recently and investigations are ongoing. If you have any information of witness fly tipping the area, please report it.
