A Harron Homes Site Manager building new homes in Shipley has been named one of the best in the country at the National House Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job 2024 awards.

The NHBC is the UK’s leading home warranty and insurance provider and its flagship Pride in the Job awards is one of the most highly regarded competition in the industry, showcasing best practice and rewarding excellence.

Richard Hutchinson, 53, from Sheffield, works on the highly sought after Shipley Lakeside development, and he received the award in recognition of the high standards maintained on site.

Richard joined Harron nearly two years ago, after over 20 years of working in the house building industry and managing sites at other housebuilders. Previously in the military and being deployed across the UK and overseas, Richard wanted to work closer to home and look after his family. He wanted to remain active and work with his hands, which meant local construction was an appealing area of work to progress into. Taking pride in constructing quality homes, he worked his way up and has had a variety of roles, including assistant site manager and site manager.

Richard has had recognition for his work as an assistant site manager in a previous role, although this is his first time receiving an award as a full site manager.

Richard said “I’m absolutely thrilled to receive this award. I had talked myself out of it, so winning this award is really special; I’m on cloud nine. Harron Homes is such a great place to work and my experience here has been second to none. I’ve been surrounded by the best people here who have supported me from day one. I’m proud to create high quality homes and see customers happy with their purchases, so to be recognised by the NHBC feels incredible.

“Shipley is such a beautiful location, and we have an amazing team on site. I would like to thank everyone at Harron for all their support, especially our contracts manager Adam Pickering and my assistant site manager Jamie Lacey, both of whom have been absolutely solid as part of my team here at Shipley Lakeside. I can’t thank them enough for their hard work and support.”

Lee Kilby, Construction Director at Harron Homes North Midlands, said, “We’re incredibly proud of Richard and the rest of the team at Shipley Lakeside. It’s a beautiful location and Richard has put so much hard work into making the site one that customers have come to love.

“A lot of effort goes into building every Harron home to the highest quality, and I would like to thank the whole Harron team as we know our successes would not be possible without the great team spirit we have here.”

Commenting on the awards, Steve Wood, CEO at NHBC, said: “For more than four decades, Pride in the Job has underpinned NHBC’s purpose of raising standards in house building. The competition recognises the UK’s top site managers, showcasing best practice and rewarding excellence.

“Winning site managers demonstrate dedication, passion and leadership to ensure new homes are delivered to exacting construction quality standards. While house building is a team effort, we believe the greatest influence on the quality of a finished home is the calibre of the site manager and the way they inspire their team. Congratulations to all the winners.”
