The singer-songwriter will perform a 20-minute set at Gasoline on Saltergate on May 4 as part of his tour supporting grassroots venues and independent record stores. Frank will be travelling 500 miles to play in 15 venues stretching from Liverpool to Southampton.

Phil Deacon, who owns Gasoline, said: “The general mood and excitement that such a star is playing at Gasoline has been highlighted by lots of very excited comments and messages from fans on our social media. It’s great to be a part of something like this and to also spread the word and importance of grassroots music venues and the need for survival.

"Huge thanks to Music Venue Trust, Frank and his team and of course Tallbird Records shop who are working in partnership with us to plan, organise and deliver the show.”

Fans swooped on tickets as soon as the news was announced yesterday (Tuesday). Maria Harris, proprietor of Tallbird Records on Soresby Street, said: “We sold out in around three hours – just over 100 tickets.”

Frank will be attempting to topple the world record set by Hunter Hayes who played 10 shows in 24 hours in 2004.

He said: “With nearly 3000 shows under my belt, I’ve never been one to do things by halves or shirk a challenge - I once played all 50 American states in 50 days. We’re working with 13 independent record shops and 15 independent grassroots music venues for the shows, highlighting two bits of the infrastructure of the underground that I care about most. It’s going to be tough, but hopefully fun too.”

Frank’s world record attempt coincides with the release of his tenth studio album, Undefeated, on May 3. He will perform at Y Not Festival, between Matlock and Buxton, on August 3.
