Official figures from NHS England say a further 561 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 2,698.

Patients were aged between 22 and 100 years old.

44 of the 561 patients, aged between 25 and 100 years old, had no known underlying health condition.

Their families have been informed.

The four patients were being cared for at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

Two patients died on March 30, and two died yesterday (April 1).

Today’s jump in deaths is the biggest daily increase since the outbreak began, following a rise of 563 deaths yesterday.

A total of 33,718 people have now tested positive for coronavirus.

There has been a surge in people applying for Universal Credit in the last fortnight, with around 950,000 successful new claimants.
